Trama: parte 2

Inizia un lungo viaggio (ventimila leghe corrispondono a circa 80000km) sotto i mari, dalle coste dell'Asia nel Pacifico al Polo Sud, alla Norvegia. Ned Land tenta più volte e invano un piano di fuga, mentre gli altri due sono attratti dalle bellezze del fondo marino e dalle nuove scoperte scientifiche. Assistono anche alla generosità del Capitano Nemo che salva un pescatore di perle da uno squalo. Poi uccidono una foca in una battuta di caccia; si scontrano con dei calamari giganti e in seguito salvano delle balene da un attacco di capodogli (i più grandi animali viventi muniti di denti). La vita sul sottomarino si fa però sempre più monotona e il Capitano Nemo si isola spesso, rivelando solo che faceva quella vita per vendicare la sua famiglia affondando le navi degli inglesi, che gli avevano tolto tutto (patria e famiglia), e diventando una specie di difensore degli oppressi. All'improvviso, nei pressi delle coste norvegesi, il Nautilus viene risucchiato dal Maelstrom, una specie di gorgo. I tre vengono scaraventati fuori e si ritrovano nella capanna di un pescatore su una delle isole Lofoten, sperando poi di poter riuscire a tornare in Francia.

Plot: second part

A long journey begings (twenty thousand leagues correspond to about 80000km) under the sea, from the Pacific coast of Asia to the South Pole, to the Norway. Ned Land tried several times in vain an escape plan, while the two others are attracted by the beauty of the seabed and the new scientific discoveries. They attend to the generosity of Captain Nemo that saves a pearl diver from a shark. Then they kill a seal in a hunt; they clash themselves with the giant squid and later save the whales from a bout of sperm whales (the largest animals living fitted with teeth). However life on the submarine is increasingly monotonous and Captain Nemo often island himself, revealing only that it was that life to avenge his family sinking ships of English people, that had removed all to him (home and family), and becoming a kind of oppressed defender. Suddenly, near the Norwegian coast, the Nautilus is sucked into the Maelstrom, a kind of whirlpool. The three people are thrown out and find themselves in a fisherman's hut on a Lofoten Island, hoping then to be able to return to France.
