Il capitano Nemo, invece, rimasto nel sottomarino travolto, verrà poi ritrovato dai naufraghi del romanzo di Verne "L'isola misteriosa" (1874), dove ricomparirà anche il quartiermastro Ayrton, ufficiale traditore abbandonato dopo un ammutinamento della nave Britannia, dispersa nel primo capitolo della trilogia verniana “I figli del capitano Grant” (1867).
